Jeff Marsh and Dan Povenmire Discuss Phineas and Ferb at Comic Con 2012

Phineas and Ferb is an animated comedy about two stepbrothers who find inventive things to do on each day of their summer vacation such as building a roller coaster out of everyday materials you would find in your home like Popsicle sticks, indoor plumbing, etc. This of course leads to all sorts of shenanigans but at the end of the day it's all about the joy every child gets out of summer.
 
The brothers also have a pet platypus named Perry who, unbeknownst to them, also lives a double life as a secret agent. As the show's popularity has grown over the years so has Perry's, so much so that he has gotten his own animated shorts and movies.
 
This year at the San Diego Comic Con I sat down with the two creators of the show, Jeff Marsh and Dan Povenmire. Like most creators of popular shows, they are as surprised and pleased as anyone at how big the show has become. At first the show only existed within the confines of their backyard, which obviously kept it simple for the writers. As time passed though they expanded outward, incorporating the whole town.
 
Likewise, Perry's adventures have become more involved over time, growing into full length episodes and movies. This upcoming seasons theme will be "Where's Perry?" as the platypus has disappeared.
 
It's always surprising but very joyous to see a kids show reach a certain level of popularity. It allows the writers to do more which in turn gives the audience more to enjoy. Hopefully Phineas and Ferb will see more years of success but never have to see an end to their summer.
